A study visit to Greece

On June 11- 14, the delegation of RA Human Rights Defender's Office headed by Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan, left for Athens to participate in a study visit organized by the Greek Ombudsman’s Eunomia project. The goal of the visit was the exchange of experience and the acquaintance with activity of the   Armenian and Greek Ombudsman staffs. In the framework of the visit Armen Harutyunyan and Greek Ombudsman Yorgos Kaminis gave a conference on «The role of the Ombudsman in Armenian and Greece respective societies» which was followed by a discussion, during which members of the Greek Ombudsman’s staff had the opportunity to exchange information about the everyday work, the legal background and cases handled by the Armenian Ombudsman's Office.

During the visit the representatives of Armenian Ombudsman's Office acquainted with the work of each department of the Greek Ombudsman's Office. Human Rights protection, Citizen- State relations, Environment, Children's rights, Public Health and Welfare. In the framework of the visit Armen Harutyunyan participated in the international conference on Constitutional right.


The Eunomia project is run under the auspices of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights and is managed by the Greek Ombudsman. The aims of the project are:

• Design and Develop their strategies on the protection of citizens' rights;
• Promote international regional co-operation on Ombudsman issues;
• Offer access and disseminate relevant information;
• Develop common policies and strategies to set up and foster flexible and innovative approaches to combat maladministration


Its activities are carried out in the following areas;

• Human Rights protection
• Citizen- State relations
• Environment
• Children's rights
• Public Health and Welfare
