On
April 25, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the
Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Armenia, Christos Sofianopoulos
Welcoming
the guest, Ms. Anahit Manasyan highly appreciated the friendly relations
between Armenia and Greece, emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation
between the institutions of the two countries implementing the mission of
protecting human rights.
Ms.
Manasyan presented to the Ambassador the important directions of the Human
Rights Defender's activity, which, among others, include the rights of women,
children, national minorities, persons with disabilities, hate speech, an
atmosphere of intolerance, the fight against discrimination, and other areas.
The
parties discussed the challenges in the field of ensuring equality and
anti-discrimination.
In
this context, the Defender emphasized the current unacceptable levels of hate
speech, discrimination, and intolerance in the Republic of Armenia and the
importance of the work carried out within the framework of the fight against
it.
The
interlocutors also discussed issues related to the protection of the rights of
persons forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, including children.
In
turn, Ambassador Christos Sofianopoulos expressed his gratitude for the
reception and highlighted the role of the Defender’s institution in the
fulfillment of the mission of protecting human rights.
