On
June 16, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan received a delegation led by Mr. Zachary Barter, Director of the US
State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement
Affairs (INL)
Welcoming
the guests, Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented the directions of the Human Rights
Defender's activities. She especially emphasized the importance of combating
intolerance, discrimination and hate speech, the proportionality of force used
by law enforcement bodies, training organized for them, and reforms in the
penitentiary system.
During
the meeting, the projects implemented by the US Embassy in Armenia that make a
significant contribution to the strengthening of democratic values, the
protection of human rights, and the development of the legal environment were
discussed.
In
turn, Mr. Zachary Barter thanked the Defender for the warm welcome and
meaningful discussion.
The
interlocutors outlined further directions of cooperation.
