On
August 1, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, accompanied by representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office,
visited Lori regional department of the Human Rights Defender's Office.
A
number of work-related issues were discussed, including the improvement of the
methodology of the regional department's activities.
Within
the framework of the visit to Lori region, the representatives of the Human
Rights Defender visited the “Vanadzor” penitentiary institution of the Ministry
of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. Private interviews were held with
persons deprived of their liberty.
Based
on the results of the private interviews, discussions were also held with the
administration of the penitentiary institution.
The
results of the visit are being thoroughly analyzed by the Human Rights
Defender, and appropriate measures will be taken in connection with them.
Issues
of ensuring rights in places of deprivation of liberty are always under the
direct attention of the Human Rights Defender.
The
Defender also attaches importance to issues related to ensuring proper working
conditions for penitentiary employees, which will be a special subject of
discussion within the framework of communication with the competent
authorities.
