On
October 1, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Switzerland to the Republic of Armenia, H.E. Ms. Andrea
Barbara Baumann.
Welcoming
the Ambassador, the Defender congratulated her on assuming this important and
responsible mission, wishing her success and productive work.
During
the meeting, Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented the important areas of the activity
of the Human Rights Defender, which include the rights of women, children,
national minorities, persons with disabilities, human rights in the armed
forces and in criminal proceedings, civil, socio-economic rights, the fight
against hate speech, the atmosphere of intolerance, and discrimination, the
protection of the rights of forcibly displaced persons and other areas.
The
Defender highlighted the activities that are being implemented to prevent
gender-based and domestic violence, also noting the need to ratify the Istanbul
Convention. She underlined the importance of continuing steps to protect and
promote women's rights.
Ambassador
H.E. Ms. Andrea Barbara Baumann, in her turn, expressed gratitude for the
reception, highlighting the role of the Human Rights Defender’s Office in
fulfilling the mission of protecting human rights.
