On
September 30, representatives of the Human Rights Defender's Office, together
with a person with a disability, conducted a regular monitoring visit to the
“Yerevan Basic School No. 122 named after Alexander Blok” SNPO in order to
observe accessibility for persons with disabilities.
During
the visit, a number of systemic issues related to ensuring accessibility for
persons with disabilities were recorded, which will be summarized and addressed
to the competent authorities.
During
the visit, inter alia, the students of the educational institution were
introduced to the scope of the Human Rights Defender’s mandate and main areas
of activity, a number of provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the
Child were also presented, and issues related to combating intolerance and
discrimination, as well as ensuring inclusive education, etc. were discussed.
An
expert from the Human Rights Defender’s Office explained to the children the
ways to apply to the Human Rights Defender.
Monitoring
visits carried out by the Human Rights Defender and representatives of the
Human Rights Defender’s Office are ongoing.
