On
October 2, representatives of the Human Rights Defender's Office conducted
regular monitoring visits to the "Yeghegnadzor Primary School No. 1"
SNCO in the Yeghegnadzor community of the Vayots Dzor Province of the Republic
of Armenia and the "Vaghatin Secondary School" SNCO in the Vaghatin
village of the Sisian community of the Syunik Province of the Republic of
Armenia, in order to monitor the accessibility of building conditions for
persons with disabilities.
During
the visits, a number of systemic problems related to ensuring accessibility for
persons with disabilities were recorded, which will be summarized and addressed
to the competent authorities.
At
the "Yeghegnadzor Primary School No. 1" SNCO of the Yeghegnadzor
community, inter alia, the students were presented with the scope of the Human
Rights Defender's mandate and main directions of activity. A number of
provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, issues related to
the combating intolerance and discrimination, as well as ensuring inclusiveness
in education, etc. were discussed.
The
expert from the Human Rights Defender’s Office presented the children with the
ways to apply to the Human Rights Defender.
Monitoring
visits carried out by the Human Rights Defender and representatives of the
Human Rights Defender’s Office are ongoing.
