On November 7, Mr. Aram Minasyan, Head of the Department for the Protection of Rights in the Criminal Justice and in the Armed Forces of the Human Rights Defender’s Office of the Republic of Armenia, hosted H.E. Ms. Andrea Barbara Baumann, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Republic of Armenia. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office and the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD) of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
The guests were briefed on the mandate and areas of activity of the Human Rights Defender, which encompass, inter alia, the protection of the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, and national minorities, human rights in the armed forces, the prevention of hate speech and intolerance, and the fight against discrimination, among others.
Reference was also made to the mechanisms for the protection of the rights of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, the current challenges they face, and the ongoing efforts undertaken in this regard.
The parties emphasized the importance of expanding international cooperation and deepening partnership in the field of human rights protection. In this context, a number of key directions for cooperation were discussed, aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of shared objectives.
Ambassador H.E. Ms. Andrea Barbara Baumann, in turn, expressed her gratitude for the reception and highlighted the role of the Human Rights Defender’s Office in fulfilling the mission of protecting human rights.
