On 9 February, the Human
Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, received the
President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia, Ms. Elen Manaseryan,
and Deputy President Ms. Tiruhi Nazaretyan.
Welcoming the guests, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan presented the main directions of the institution’s activities,
emphasizing the priority of human rights protection in the field of labor
rights and the activities carried out in that direction.
The key topics of discussion
included the problems existing in the field of labor law in the Republic of
Armenia, including issues related to the protection of workers’ labour and
social rights. Reference was made to the problems related to the exercise of
the right to strike, the need to make serious legislative and institutional
reforms in this field.
The discussion also covered
issues related to the establishment of the minimum wage, ensuring healthy and
safe working conditions, the exercise of the right to freedom of association,
the absence of necessary mechanisms for the protection of labour rights as well
as current processes observed in the field.
The parties underscored the
importance of strengthening institutional cooperation in the field.
At the end of the meeting,
the parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue and intensify cooperation
in protecting workers' rights and promoting the development of a decent working
environment.
