On April 19, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, held a masterclass for young people in Lori
region.
The aim of the event held at the SMART Center of the
Children of Armenia Fund (COAF) in Debet village was to raise awareness among
participants about their rights and create opportunities for young people to be
involved in the decision-making processes.
Welcoming the participants, Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented
the mission of the Human Rights Defender, the main areas of activity and
priorities, as well as the scope of her mandate.
“Such meetings with young people are very important for
me in the context of exchanging experience, highlighting existing problems in
the field of human rights protection and finding solutions together, as well as
involving young people in the decision-making processes on issues that concern
them,” said Ms. Anahit Manasyan.
The Defender touched upon the importance of participation
of the young people in various processes: "We must be able to ensure the
realization of rights of the young people, including participation, not only in
Yerevan, but also throughout the republic, with a wide regional spread,
involving all possible settlements," said the Defender.
Among other things, Ms. Anahit Manasyan addressed
problems related to healthcare, education, protection of children's rights, and
a number of other issues.
Within the framework of the masterclass, young people
addressed their questions to the Defender and presented problems related to
rights. Ms. Anahit Manasyan expressed her commitment to present the problems
raised during the event using a new
methodology that is by involving young people in the process of forwarding them
to the competent authorities. Preparatory work in this direction will be
carried out in the near future.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented
the young participants with participation
certificates.
Human Rights Defender, Ms. Anahit Manasyan also toured
the COAF SMART Center, got acquainted with the projects implemented by the
Center, and talked with the beneficiaries.
The masterclass was organized by the Human Rights Defender’s
Office of the Republic Armenia and the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan,
within the framework of the “Human Rights in Biomedicine III” project.
