On May 7, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, received Mr. Kapil Sharma, Project Coordinator of
the Armenian Branch of the Association “Doctors without borders” and
representatives of the organization.
Ms. Anahit Manasyan warmly welcomed the participants,
expressed gratitude for the visit, and highly appreciated the organization's
activities in the Republic of Armenia. The Defender presented the key
directions of her activities and the powers granted to the Human Rights Defender
under relevant UN conventions aimed at preventing and protecting against human
rights violations.
Reference was made to issues related to human rights in
the field of healthcare in our country, including the rights of vulnerable
groups, and to visits to closed institutions by the Defender and her staff,
within the framework of which, among other things, issues related to medical
care and service for persons deprived of their liberty are studied.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Kapil Sharma expressed his
gratitude to the Human Rights Defender for the warm welcome and productive
discussion.
