On
May 29, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, received Head of the Regional Programme Political Dialogue: South
Caucasus of Konrad Adenauer Foundation Jakob Wöllenstein.
Welcoming
the guest, the Defender highlighted the effective and stable cooperation
established with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the field of human rights
protection.
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan presented the important directions and priorities of the work
of the Human Rights Defender both within the framework of the general mandate
of the institution and its conventional statuses, emphasizing the importance of
ensuring the necessary resources for the proper functioning of the institution,
including capacity-building measures for the staff of the Human Rights
Defender’s Office.
Issues
related to the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and other
vulnerable groups in the armed forces, challenges in the field of human rights
protection, and references were made to hate speech and manifestations of
intolerance, emphasizing the importance of initiatives implemented within the
framework of the combat against these negative phenomena.
The
Defender emphasized that any manifestation of hate speech should be excluded
from public discourse, ensuring an atmosphere of respect and tolerance.
Jakob
Wöllenstein thanked the Defender for the warm welcome and productive discussion.
At
the end of the meeting, the parties outlined possible new directions for
cooperation.
