The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms.
Anahit Manasyan follows the information disseminated in the mass media and
social media networks and considers the situation in the Mother See of Holy
Etchmiadzin to be worrying from the point of view of public solidarity.
The role of state authority is of exceptional importance
in regulating public life. At the same time, the Armenian Apostolic Church
plays a key role in the realization of the right to freedom of conscience and
religion of many citizens.
The Human Rights Defender emphasizes that both the
preservation of public order and the protection of religious freedoms are
possible only in an atmosphere of public solidarity. Therefore, the Defender
urges to exercise maximum restraint and to resolve problems through mutual
respect and adherence to the principles of the rule of law—while keeping in
mind the fundamental importance of public solidarity and tolerance.
Further escalation of the situation may lead to
irreversible consequences, and everyone should take this into account.
