Leadership is not a position or a title, but a way of
life. On July 5, the Human Rights Defender,
Ms. Anahit Manasyan delivered a keynote speech at the discussion on “Women’s
Leadership as a Tool for Influencing Change” organized within the framework of
the “Promotion of Women’s Participation in Political and Civil Life” project.
The aim of the event held in Dilijan was to improve the
active involvement of young women and girls in democratic processes. 25 women
from Shirak Province participated in the discussion.
In her speech, Ms. Manasyan referred the idea of
leadership, the challenges facing women leaders, and the problems in the sphere
of protecting and promoting women’s rights.
"Leadership is not a title or a position, but a way
of life to unite, inspire people to achieve a common goal of making a positive
change in public life. Today, women's leadership is much more challenging than
that of men. Women are often targeted on grounds that men would never be
targeted. At the same time, if you have chosen a path to make changes in your
life and the lives of others, never be discouraged by all these challenges”
stated Ms. Manasyan.
Ms. Manasyan emphasized that leadership is not a position
or title, but a way of life, also reflecting on her experience and the path she
has taken.
"As a result of my life experience, I have become
convinced that instead of combating troubles, we should simply accept them as
an opportunity, because the most serious troubles in life reveal the greatest
opportunities in it. Moreover, one should never cling to the results of any
process, but rather enjoy every moment of life. It is important to realize that
the smallest step is certainly more than even the most courageous intention.
Therefore, we ourselves must become the change we want to see in the world,
getting rid of the imaginary idea that someone else can implement these changes
for us. I also believe that everyone should find their own formula for life—one
that truly brings them inner harmony" concluded Ms. Manasyan.
The Defender concluded by emphasizing that few things can
inspire and energize a person more than the desire to make a difference in
people's lives.
The meeting was held in an interactive format: the
participants presented their ideas about leadership, as well as addressed
questions to the Human Rights Defender.
The discussion was organized by the “Women’s Rights
House” NGO with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
