On
October 9, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan hosted students of Yerevan High School No. 184 named after Sero
Khanzadyan. The visit was of a cognitive nature and was dedicated to the topic
of children's rights.
Welcoming
the guests, Ms. Anahit Manasyan introduced the students to the mission of the
Human Rights Defender’s Office, its mandate, main areas of activity, and
priorities.
The
Defender referred in detail the issues of protecting children's personal data,
as well as the peculiarities of combating intolerance and discrimination.
She
also introduced the fundamental rights enshrined in the UN Convention on the
Rights of the Child and the national mechanisms ensuring their protection.
“It
is extremely important that students are interested in the field of human
rights protection. Proper awareness of the rights helps to form a tolerant and
non-discriminatory environment,” noted Ms. Anahit Manasyan.
The
meeting was held in a Q&A format, giving students the opportunity to raise
their concerns. A number of issues related to the protection of children’s
rights were discussed, including the prevention and response to violence
against children, ensuring the right to education, and the right to be heard and
express opinions freely.
The
activities of the Public Council on Children’s Rights Protection adjunct to the
Human Rights Defender were also referred.
Concluding
the meeting, Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasized the importance of everyone's
participation and the implementation of positive changes in their own
environment in order to overcome the existing problems in the field of human
rights protection.

meetings with students of educational institutions are ongoing at the Human
Rights Defender’s Office.
