On October 30, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan hosted students from Yerevan John Kirakosyan basic school, Yerevan.
Welcoming the guests, Ms. Anahit Manasyan introduced the mission of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, its mandate, main areas of activity, and priorities.
“It is extremely important and encouraging that you are interested in human rights protection issues, since it is impossible to achieve real and sustainable success in any field without sufficient knowledge of human rights. Proper awareness of the rights helps us to form a tolerant, inclusive and non-discriminatory environment,” stated Ms. Anahit Manasyan.
The meeting was held in a Q&A format, providing the students with an opportunity to voice their concerns.
A number of issues related to the protection of children’s rights were discussed, including the prevention of violence against children, the realization of the right to education, as well as the rights to be heard and to freely express opinions.
Awareness-raising meetings with students of educational institutions have become a common practice at the Human Rights Defender’s Office.
